The Goodwood Revival
The romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be. The Revival is the only historic race meeting to be staged entirely in period dress and is a return to the halcyon days of Goodwood as the spiritual home of British motor racing.

It’s an unabashed celebration of flat-out wheel-to-wheel racing around the sweeps and curves of this classic circuit, which remains unchanged since its heyday. The inaugural Revival opened on 18 September 1998, when the Earl of March drove around the circuit in the Bristol 400 in which his Grandfather, the 9th Duke of Richmond, opened the track 50 years before. It’s now the world’s most celebrated historic motor racing event, with race fans soaking up the unique atmosphere in period costume.

This joyous celebration of vintage motor racing attracts a host of famous drivers and celebrity participants each year. Held in the beautiful grounds of the Goodwood Estate, in the rolling Sussex countryside, it recreates the period when the Goodwood Motor Circuit was one of Britain’s leading racing venues.

The kinds of cars that appeared then are brought back to race today. Expect gleaming Ferraris, Aston Martins, Mercedes and Silver Arrows. Spectators and drivers alike dress up in period fashion, creating a magical time capsule that should be on everyone’s must-do list.

After a hearty breakfast our premium coach will transfer you from the Rubens Hotel to the last grass wartime airfield left in Kent. RAF Lashenden became a prototype for the temporary Advanced Landing Ground airfields that were built in France after D-Day, when the need for advanced landing fields became urgent as the Allied forces moved east across France and Germany.

From here you will enjoy a 30-minute pleasure flight over central London in the classic de Havilland Devon vintage passenger aircraft. Offering unique views of London’s iconic sights and with a large window per guest for superb photo opportunities, the Devon was developed as a short haul airliner by de Havilland and with its non-military sister the Dove were exceptionally successful.

Our aircraft is an ex-RAF 1946 Devon, assigned to Air Chief Marshall Sir Basil Embry during his time as Commander of Allied Forces, Central Europe. During WWII Basil Embry lead bombing missions to France and on 26th May 1940 was shot down over France. He escaped and is one of the few British officers to have watched the German victory parade in Paris. Basil Embry returned to active service flying missions in the desert. In October 1944 as an Air Chief Marshall he lead Mosquitoes to bomb the Gestapo HQ in Denmark.

A 30-minute pleasure flight over central London awaits our 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' tour guests on Sunday morning.

After your vintage flight over London we transfer back to the capital and the Rubens Hotel for a light lunch in our private dining room before checking-out and your onward journey.

'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' will be a unique, engaging and inclusive tour with vintage luxury and glamour at the forefront. Echoing the famous strapline of the Goodwood Revival - 'A magical step back in time'
