Aviation History Tours, Classic Motorsport Tours and Battlefield Tours
Twynhams Tours was established at Silverstone circuit back in 2007 with the dream of providing high quality hospitality, stunning trackside locations and great value packages.
Our first hospitality suite was ‘compact’ to say the least! Having a capacity of just 30 guests and with less elbow room than a typical budget airline flight. This presented some challenges at lunchtime, but free flowing champagne helped the situation, along with serving dessert on the balcony mid-F1 race. Over the next three years we expanded into ever larger hospitality suites, eventually catering for 300 guests over the F1 Grand Prix, MotoGP and Silverstone Classic weekends. This coincided with a new suite at Donington Park and our first foray into the glamorous world of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Following some major changes at Silverstone, our focus switched from a fixed hospitality location to running ‘tours’. Our very first tour was to the Mille Miglia in 2016 and it presented a whole host of interesting new situations that we didn’t have at Silverstone. There was the language barrier and the edge-of-your-seat experience provided by Italian coach drivers, who appear to have been ex-Ferrari racing drivers in a previous life! From 2017-2019 we progressed onto tours to Monaco, Spa Francorchamps and Monza for their Grand Prix races.
2016 also provided the opportunity to branch out into the world of Classic Aviation Tours and bring not only a high level of service but those little extra ‘Twynhams touches’ that our motorsports clients have always enjoyed, to this underdeveloped sector.
This desire to extend our offerings to the aviation world was no coincidence. Having spent his childhood building model Spitfire’s alongside the F1 cars, Matt then spent 5 years in the RAF from 1986 to 1991 during the final stages of the Cold War. Trained as an Aerospace Systems Operator and Fighter Control Assistant. Matt's postings included 18 months at the RAF's most Northerly UK Sector Operations Centre at RAF Saxa Vord in the Shetland Islands. His role included monitoring the airspace over the North Sea and assisting with QRA scrambles to intercept the almost daily incursions by the Soviet Air Force.
Over the last few years, we have successfully run multiple aviation tours, including the Flying legends and Battle of Britain Airshows, Warbird Hangar Tours and Dambusters and Battle of Britain commemoration tours. 2019 also saw us expand into the Battlefield tour sector with a hugely successful D-Day Commemoration Tour.
2020 was destined to be our best year so far, with most tours already sold out by mid-2019 and an amazing group of dedicated suppliers, spread all over Europe. However as with most companies in the tourism industry, 2020 was ‘somewhat challenging’ with the Coronavirus situation. But with the help, support and understanding of our clients (and suppliers) we have negotiated the worst of the situation and are moving forward into 2022 with a renewed sense of purpose.
And what a year 2022 promises to be! Highlights include the ever popular Mille Miglia Tour, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, the amazing period spectacle that is the Goodwood Revival and the Le Mans Classic weekend at the iconic La Sarthe circuit. There are also Grand Prix Tours to Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps, giving F1 fans the chance to attend the best races at the greatest circuits. The Battle of Britain Tour is the headline aviation event and along with our exclusive Warbird Hangar Tours and airshows we will bounce back in style!
We intend to build on all our previous experience and rich heritage. Our tour hosts and guides are all qualified and knowledgeable enthusiasts and we guarantee that your experience will be worth every penny and more!
